How long does it take to listen to a book read aloud?

A 300-page book takes about 9 hours to hear at 1x and 4.5 hours at 2x. See the numbers for books, PDFs and articles, and how speed changes them.

Short answer

At about 165 words a minute, a 300-page book of around 90,000 words takes about 9 hours at 1x, 6 hours at 1.5x and 4.5 hours at 2x. A 20-page paper takes about 35 minutes at 1x.

Voices read about 150 to 170 words a minute at normal speed. The listening time calculator uses 165, the same number the app uses for the time left on each card.
