A paper read aloud by a plain text-to-speech voice is a wall of "open bracket twelve close bracket" and "Vaswani et al. comma twenty seventeen". In Aloudeo, that clutter stays off the voice.
What you hear, and what stays on the page
| On the page | What you hear |
|---|---|
| (Vaswani et al., 2017) | nothing |
| [12] | nothing |
| (see Table 3) | nothing |
| et al. | and colleagues |
| Fig. 3 | Figure 3 |
| e.g. | for example |
| i.e. | that is |
| ≈ 4 | about 4 |
Use the highlight to keep up
Dense papers go faster when your eyes follow the sentence the voice reads. Tap a sentence to hear it again, slow down to 0.75x for the methods, and speed up through related work.
Where it stops
- Formulas, tables and figure captions with only numbers are skipped.
- Two-column layouts read column by column; a figure in the middle of a column can split a paragraph.
