Scan a paper page and hear it read aloud

Point your iPhone camera at a printed page, a letter or a handout and hear it in a natural voice. The text is read off the photo on your phone.

Short answer

Tap + in Aloudeo, choose Scan paper pages and photograph the page. Your iPhone reads the text off the photo, on the phone, and a natural voice reads it to you. Printed text reads best; handwriting can come out wrong.

A letter from the bank, a school handout, a page from a library book you can't take home. Scan it and listen.

Scan a page

  1. Open Aloudeo and tap +.
  2. Choose Scan paper pages and hold the page flat in good light.
  3. Press play.

Your iPhone reads the text off the photo on the phone, then the voice reads it to you.

Get a clean read

  • Lay the page flat and fill the frame with it.
  • Avoid shadows across the text.
  • Scan one column at a time on newspapers and magazines.

Where it stops

  • Handwriting, stamps and decorative fonts can come out wrong.
  • Very small print needs a closer, sharper photo.

Questions you ask about this

Does the photo leave my phone?
No. Your iPhone reads the text off the photo on the phone, and the voice runs there too.
Can it read handwriting?
Neat handwriting sometimes works. Printed text is far more reliable.
Can I scan several pages?
Yes. Scan them one after another and they stay together, in order.
